[edit] The Crash
According to newspaper reports, the plane crashed shortly after takeoff and about 500 meters from the airport. When police and rescue arrived, they found the plane submerged in the water. Divers recovered four bodies from the plane and two passengers were hospitalized with severe injuries.
The reason why the five people died is speculative. One theory is that the tethers used for skydiving prevented most of the passengers from escaping.[2]
The two survivors were the two employees of Brisbane Skydiving Centre, Brian Scoffell, the owner, and a 27 year old female employee, who was thrown from the wreckage upon impact.[3]
[edit] Cause
Eyewitness told officials and reporters that the plane failed to gain altitude and there was smoke trailing from it before the plane struck a tree and slammed into the dam.[4] But because light planes do not carry black boxes, it is uncertain of what caused the plane to crash.
