[edit] Biography
Andreassier-Pearl was born on June 17, 1947 in France and has been with the United Nations for 34 years. Being the Chief of the UN's Interpretation Service, she acted as the consultant for film director Sydney Pollack, emphasizing the difference between an interpreter and a translator. The interpreter deals with spoken communication within the confines of a glass booth, while a translator works with written documents. She has a Ph.D. in French literature and is fluent in English, French and Spanish. Her multilingual team at the UN Interpretation Service is composed of about 200 interpreters and 2 meeting services personnel. Before becoming chief interpreter, Andreassier-Pearl was the Head of the French Section of the UN Interpretation Service before becoming chief of the whole service.
True to the character of Silvia Broome in the film, The Interpreter, Andreassier-Pearl is also a musician. She plays the bassoon and a member and general manager of The Centre Symphony Orchestra which usually holds seasonal concerts at the St. Peter's Church in Lexington Avenue, Manhattan, New York. Her husband, Stephen Pearl, is also a musician who plays the clarinet, apart from being a UN English interpreter.
