Brighton Grammar School is an independent boys' schools located in Brighton - a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, founded in 1882 by Dr George Henry Crowther.

On the first day (14 February 1882) eight boys came to the school. The number of students kept on growing and by 1890, 160 boys were enroled. During the depression of the 1890s the school lost a lot of pupils. The School founder, Dr George Henry Crowther held the role of Headmaster until his death in 1918. His son, Lieutenant Colonel Harry Arnold A. Crowther who was in active service in France assumed the role of headmaster. Mr Herbert A. Dixon became headmaster of the school on Crowther's retirement in 1924. He helped expand the school and retired in 1938. After this retirement, Geoffrey G. Green became headmaster until his retirement in 1942.

The man who took over the job was Rev. Phillip St.John Wilson. The number of enrolled boys reached 800 during the 1960's. In 1958 Brighton Grammar joined the Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS). The school bought grounds on which the former Brighton Gas Company was and Wilson House, now the Junior School was built there to accommodate the constantly growing numbers.

In 1967 Robert Lancelot Rofe took over the control of the school. Many buildings went up during his time as headmaster. Such buildings include a new classroom block in Wilson House, the Creative Arts Centre in the Senior School and the performance hall in the school's middle school, Rosstrevor. Mr Rofe retired in 1995.

Michael Spencer Urwin was appointed Headmaster in 1996 and currently holds that position.

The School has an enrolment of around 1200. The School remains a boys only School, one of the few single sex schools in today's private education market.

Brighton is an Anglican school, associated with the Anglican Church of Australia, and particularly affiliated with neighbouring St Andrew's Church who have representation on the School Council.

It is a member of the Associated Public Schools of Victoria, the Australian Anglican Schools Network, and the British Schools and Universities Foundation

While it is a boys' school, it has very close ties with its sister school, Firbank Grammar School, a girls' school; students of the two schools participate in a number of co-educational activities together.The majority of students come from the affluent bayside suburbs of Brighton, East Brighton, Hampton and Sandringham.

Brighton Grammar has six houses all of which are named after significant people for the school. The newest house is Rofe, which started in 2005 in the Senior School and Rosstrevor and 2005 in the Junior School.

The school has an annual income of $16.6 million, and a surplus of about $500,000. Just under 11 per cent of that annual income comes from the Federal Government, which has increased funding at the school by 132 per cent in the past four years.

The school's projected income for Year 2007 is $20.5M, according to the financial mail-out distributed to all parents of students at the school. This mail-out is devised by the school.
