Bridgewater, Tasmania, is greater Hobart's northern-most suburb, located 19km from the city. It is situated on the eastern shore of the Derwent River. It is a suburb of the local government area of the Municipality of Brighton.
Bridgewater is the first suburb of Hobart visitors from the north of the state pass through when travelling to Hobart via the Midland Highway. The suburb connects to the western shore via the Bridgewater Bridge and Causeway.
Bridgewater is one of the lowest socio-economic areas of Hobart, with a low average household age and above average unemployment and crime.
The main commercial area of Bridgewater is the Cove Hill Shopping Centre, which includes a supermarket and several specialty stores.
Bridgewater has four primary schools: Northern Suburbs Christian School (private), St. Paul's Primary School (Catholic), Greenpoint Primary School and Bridgewater Primary School (both public). It also has a public high school, Bridgewater High School, which includes a school farm.
