Bridgette Crosby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Professor Bridgett Crosby is a fictional character in DC Comics' Superman titles as well as on the Smallville television show.
[edit] History
Dr. Bridgette Crosby first appeared in "Superman" #158, along with Dr. Kitty Faulkner, John Henry Irons, Ray Palmer, and Dr. Sarah Charles, who all tried to cure Superman of kryptonite poisoning in the Critical Condition storyline. At S.T.A.R. Labs, they shrunk Team Superman down so they could go inside Superman, find the tumor, and cut it out before it was too late.
[edit] Other media
A Dr. Bridgette Crosby--played by Margot Kidder--was featured in Smallville as an emissary of Dr. Virgil Swann (who was portrayed by Kidder's one-time Superman films co-star, Christopher Reeve). First appearing in the season 4 opener, "Crusade," Dr. Crosby approached Martha Kent with a way to restore her son, Clark, from his current state of Kal-El, who was beginning his search for the three stones of power. It could be deduced that Crosby's and Swann’s plan was to use the black, manufactured form of kryptonite against Clark/Kal-El. This may not have been to harm Clark, but to preserve the crystals for benign reasons. Just after he had retrieved the fire element, Martha used the black kryptonite to split Clark/Kal-El into separate personas, with Clark winning the ensuing battle. Dr. Crosby next appeared at the very end of the episode "Transference", picking up Lionel's stone-fanatic ex-cellmate [Edgar] after he was released from prison. He then gave her the water element, which previously had switched Lionel's and Clark’s bodies. Although Margot Kidder did not appear again, Bridgette Crosby was mentioned again in "Spirit," in which she was supposed to meet with Lex, but instead is found dead and half buried on the Luthor estate. It becomes apparent that she was captured and killed by Jason, who then acquired the water element. For good measure, Jason acuses Lex of the murder, who then arranges to remove all records of her existence. Her name is once again mentioned by Jason Teague in the Seson Finale, as he interogates the Kents. It's never really clear whether or not Bridgette Crosby was an antagonist to Clark, but as Jor-El warned Clark: "Greed will drive others to hunt the stones..."
