[edit] Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Phoebe and Piper are lured to the dark side (much to the worry of Leo) and relish in their new evil powers when a shape-shifting warlock and demonic priestess trick Prue into a shot-gun wedding in an effort to steal the Book of Shadows.

[edit] Enemies

  • Zile: A shape-shifting warlock who tricks Prue into marrying him.
  • Dantalian: A dark priestess who marries Prue to a warlock in a dark ceremony.

[edit] Spells

  • Dark Priestess Curse: Mexcemo dempress anama tomb.
  • To Vanquish A Dark Priestess: Powers of Light, Magic of Right, Cast this Blight into Forever's Night.
  • Hemlock Killing Spell: Boil a Hemlock root and serve its contents to your chosen victim after reciting this spell: Branch of Hemlock, do Your Deed. Blood of Life will you Impede. Poisoned Fark will stop the Breath, and in the End will bring Death.
  • To Kill A Female Warlock: Must possess the Book of Shadows or a Grimoire to channel the spell through. Through this book, weave my spell. Create the pain of heaven and hell. May she suffer, until she cries. Her tears will run, and then she dies.

[edit] Trivia

  • This episode's title is a play on words to the wedding phrase bride and groom.
  • This is the very first time that a Charmed One marries.
  • The movie that Phoebe is watching at the beginning of this episode is the fictional Kill It Before It Dies from the season two episode Chick Flick.
  • Phoebe tells Piper she is going upstairs to change because she can't wreak havok in what she has on, but in the end she never changes once Cole shows up.
  • In the scene where the High Priestess steals the Book of Shadows, she falls on the floor right before Piper and Phoebe torture her. If you look at the soles of her footwear, at first they are those of black workboots, then when the camera changes angles, they change to pointy toed boots.
  • Piper's freezing power is expanded for this episode only. Not only can she stop an object in place, but she can literally freeze it into a figure of ice.
  • All three sisters, once they become evil, develop additional powers such as: transmogrification, conjuration, telekinesis, and the power to blink.
  • Phoebe says to Prue and Piper that she got in touch with her evil side, something she'll never do again, but later does do again when she marries Cole as The Source and becomes his queen.
  • Some fans speculate that the reason Shannen Doherty's character of Prue has few lines in this episode, is because Shannen would direct the next episode in the series, which would be negatively impacted had Shannen been given many lines to remember. This episode was also filmed during the period when Doherty and Milano were supposedly publicly feuding[citation needed]. Doherty's role was also minimized in the episode Look Who's Barking.
  • Due to this episode, all Charmed Ones marry, in order by age.

[edit] International titles

  • French: Le côté obscur
  • German: Das Böse in mir (The evil inside of me)
  • Spanish: Novia y oscuridad
