[edit] Athletics

Brick Township High School South competes in the Shore Conference is an athletic conference comprised of private and public high schools in Monmouth County and Ocean County. The league operates under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).

Brick Township has 19 sports, including Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Cheering, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Indoor Track, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track, and Wrestling.

In the past couple of years the gymnastics team has done a dominating job, in 2005 Lindsay Poplaski was # 1 in the state on beam. They also placed 4th in state sectionals in 2006.

The school was known for its powerful ice hockey program which produced NHL player Jim Dowd. However in the 1990's private schools began to dominate the public schools, Brick was the only team to remain competitive enough to keep playing in the top division. However it was discovered in 2001 that the team had numerous players who did not live in Brick and were going to the school anyway. Since this was discovered, Brick's ice hockey program has slid into mediocrity. The 1990's era teams are often referred to as "Brick Catholic."

Brick football is more than just tradition. With Warren Wolf as New Jersey's all-time winningest coach and Brick's only head coach ever, the pride felt on the stands is immense. Not a game goes by without painted bodies, Brick apparel and souvenirs, or throngs of students and alumnae. It is typically said that those who go through BTHS bleed green.

BTHS also has a great performing arts program, which includes Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Chorus and Advanced Chorus. Their marching band has had great success competing in the USSBA circuit where they won the regional championship in 1998 and 2000 under their band director David Lyncheski.

[edit] Mascot

BTHS's mascot is the green dragon. In early years, he was a friendly character known as "Bobby Brick", wearing his varsity sweater with pride. In years to come, the name and appearance would be lost in favor of a more competitive and fierce identity.
