[edit] Legal problems

Shortly after midnight on the morning of July 6, 2006, Milwaukee police arrested Shackelford at Miller Park, shortly after the end of a game between the Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers. Shackelford had pitched to one batter in the 12th inning, striking out Prince Fielder. Police charged Shackelford with third-degree sexual assault.[1] Shackelford was released from jail on his own recognizance later that afternoon. The Reds sent him to AAA Louisville that afternoon also, and did not indicate if the arrest was part of the cause for the demotion.

According to television station WCPO in Cincinnati, Shackelford agreed to meet a woman, whom he had contacted via Match.com, in a Milwaukee hotel room on Monday, July 3. The woman later claimed that "something improper" happened while the two were together. [2]

On July 18, Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney Keith Berg released a letter indicating that Shackelford would not face criminal charges in the matter.[3]
