Brian Jackson (keyboardist)

Brian Jackson is a keyboardist, flautist, composer, and producer known mostly for his work in the 1970s with Gil Scott-Heron. The Brooklyn born Jackson met Gil Scott-Heron while the two were attending Lincoln University (Pennsylvania). Jackson wrote most of the music that he and Scott-Heron performed and recorded. The two of them released Small Talk at 125th and Lenox in 1970 with Ron Carter on the bass. Other notable albums include Free Will (1972) and Winter in America (1974). His biggest hit was with Scott-Heron, 1978s The Bottle. Jackson continued to be active in the 1980s working with Kool and the Gang, George Benson, and Will Downing. Jackson released his first solo album in 2000 Gotta Play. Brian Jackson is still active, recently collaborating with Ladybug Mecca of Digable Planets on her solo album Trip the Light Fantastic, and Pete Miser of Radio Free Brooklyn on his solo album Camouflage is Relative.
