Brian Duprey

Brian Duprey is a Maine State Representative from Hampden. Duprey, a Republican, is perhaps best known for introducing a bill in 2005 that would ban abortions of gay fetuses, a move that won the support of the Pro-Life Alliance of Gays and Lesbians. Duprey says that the bill is needed in case scientists find a "homosexual gene."

Duprey has also introduced a bill legalizing gay marriage, even though he voted against his own bill. He said he introduced the bill, so it could force Gov. John Baldacci, a Democrat, to take a stand on same-sex marriage after he introduced a gay rights bill.

Duprey, a business owner, is married. He and his wife Carol have five children. Duprey served in the US Navy for eight years, reaching the rank of E6. He is a member of the Bangor Chamber of Commerce, and from 2001-2003 was on the Hampden Town Council. Duprey, a business owner,is the CEO of Duprey Enterprises, the largest daycare provider in Maine.
