Brent Sopel (b. January 7, 1977 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan [1]) is a Canadian professional hockey defenceman in the NHL for the Vancouver Canucks. Some media guides incorrectly list his birthplace as Calgary when his actual birthplace is Saskatoon. He is married with children to wife Kelly. On February 26th, 2007 Sopel was traded to the Vancouver Canucks from the Los Angeles Kings for a 2nd and 4th round draft pick.

Sopel currently plays for the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks. He was drafted in the 6th round, 144th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He has played for the Saskatoon Blades (WHL), Swift Current Broncos (WHL), Syracuse Crunch (AHL), Kansas City Blades (IHL), New York Islanders (NHL), and Los Angeles Kings (NHL).
