Brendan Martin Cup
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Brendan Martin Cup is the name of the Cup that Ladies' Gaelic football teams play for in the final of the All-Ireland Ladies' Senior Football Championship, the premier "knockout" competition in the game of Gaelic football played by women in Ireland. The series of games are organised by Cumann Peil Gael na mBan (Ladies' Gaelic Football Association) and are played during the summer months with the All-Ireland Final being played on the last Sunday in September or the first Sunday in October in Croke Park, Dublin.
The cup is named after Brendan Martin, a native of Tullamore, County Offaly, who organised ladies' football games in the early 1970s and became one of the first treasurers of the newly founded Ladies' Gaelic Football Association. Kerry are the most successful team in the Ladies' Championship. They have won the Brendan Martin Cup on 11 occasions. Cork are the current holders of the Brendan Martin Cup.
