"Breathing" was the first single to be released from Never For Ever by Kate Bush, the single was released four months before the album was released.
"Breathing" was released April 14, 1980, and climbed to number 16 in the UK Singles Chart. "Breathing" was the first single by Bush to feature a non-LP track on its B-side, "The Empty Bullring".
"Breathing" is about a fetal spiritual being, very much aware of what's going on outside the womb, makes a desperate plea to save mankind from nuclear destruction. Bush says it was inspired by side three of Pink Floyd's The Wall.[citation needed]
The music video features Bush in a womb portraying a baby, slowly dying.
