Breaker Bay is a suburb of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. It is situated on the east coast of the Miramar Peninsula, looking over the entrance to Wellington Harbour (formerly Port Nicholson).
Breaker Bay is one of Wellington's smallest suburbs. It has only one road, Breaker Bay Road, which runs along the coast and has houses only on the side further from the water.
The suburb takes its name from the bay found at its far north end.
It is mostly well known for being the location of Wellington's only nude beach, which is shared by naturists and clothed people alike. Families tend to congreate at the end nearest to the road, while the far end is a popular meeting point for Wellington's gay community.
In terms of public transport, Breaker Bay is only served by a commuter bus running on weekdays to the city in the mornings and to the beach in the afternoons. It is however accessible from Seatoun Shops on foot (30 mins).
