[edit] Athletics
Brazoswood High School is a member of District 24-5A of Texas.
Brazoswood has a rich athletic history and has produced several championship teams and several individual honors.
Brazoswood Football was founded upon a tradition of phenomenal success. From its beginning in 1969 until 1983, Brazoswood posted a remarkable record of 141-23-4 under legendary coach L.Z. Bryan, winning seven district championships and a state title in 1974.
The winning ways continued under Coach Jim Arthur and now coach Dean DeAtley. In 2006, the Brazoswood Buccaneer Football team was predicted to finish last. Instead the Bucs finished the year as district champions with a record of 11-2. The team's wild success continued into the playoffs as the team advanced all the way to the state's regional semifinals until coming up short against the Katy Tigers (who in turn lost to Cy-Falls the next week).
The Brazoswood Buccaneer softball team also has an addiction to winning, having won the State Championship in 2000. That team, which finished 34-0, was also named National Champions by USA Today. Star pitcher Nicole Neuerburg went 34-0 with a 0.00 ERA while earning National Softball Player of the Year honors. In 2006, the Lady Bucs advanced all the way to the state Semifinals where they played at The University of Texas Red McCombs Field. Behind star pitcher Brittany Cuevas, the Lady Bucs knocked off some stiff competition including: Pearland, Kingwood, and Katy. The 2006 Lady Bucs fell at state to Garland (the eventual state champ). The 2007 Lady Bucs are ranked #5 in Texas and return sluggers Kristen Kappler, Lindsey Rushing, and Leslie Johnson to name a few.
