Brand extensions

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A brand extension is when a company uses it's brand name on a different product within the same catergory, an example of this might be Apple extending from computers to iPods. Similar to a brand extension is brand stretching, this is where a brand transfers its name to a product outside of its current catergory, examples of this include the Virgin brand which trancends numerous product catergories or Catepilar which originally made manufacturing equipment such as diggers but now puts it's name to clothes.
