Brampton Award for Civic Bravery

The 'Brampton Award for Civic Bravery is given to outstanding members of the city of Brampton, Ontario. Recipients are awarded the award for actions that are considered to have been "brave and courageous, risking their own lives for those of fellow citizens." An award is given each year to an outstanding member of the community. The award was inaugurated in 1994, when Kateryna Leonchenkova, a girl of only six years of age, rescued a yound boy from a well he had fallen into. Since then the most courageous members of the community have followed in her footsteps to receive the award for numerous exploits, including rescuing people from buildings and capturing wanted criminals in the community.
