[edit] NWA
Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard were first linked through the formation of the original Four Horsemen in January 1986. Arn and Tully joined up with Ric Flair and Ole Anderson to form the infamous stable. Arn and Ole Anderson was originally the tag-team of the group while Tully focused on singles matches but did team quite often in six-man matches.
When Ole Anderson left the group Tully and Arn became the ”go to” team of the Four Horsemen outshining the team of Arn and Ole. The duo first won the NWA World Tag Team Championship on September 29, 1987 by beating the Rock 'n' Roll Express their first reign lasted until March 27, 1988 where they lost the titles to (Former Horseman) Lex Luger and Barry Windham
Arn and Tully regained the titles less than a month later on April 20, 1988 when Barry Windham turned on his tag-team partner and joined the Four Horsemen. After differences with promoter Jim Crockett and booker Dusty Rhodes about his and his tag-team partner Anderson's pay, Blanchard and Anderson notitifed the NWA that they had signed a contract with the World Wrestling Federation. Before they left the team lost the tag-team titles to the Midnight Express in one of their last in ring appearances.
[edit] WWF
The duo made their debut late in 1988, whereas most WWF wrestlers at the time had some sort of gimmick, the Brainbusters went against the grain and wrestled without a gimmick. The only changes Arn and Tully made to their style were pointing to their heads to show they were smarter than everyone else and the use of a spike piledriver as a finishing move. The Brain Busters were a part of the Heenan Family under management of Bobby ”The Brain” Heenan
After moving up the WWF tag-team division with feuds with the Bushwackers and The Rockers, the Brain Busters finally got to face the WWF World Tag Team Champions Demolition on July 18, 1989. With a distraction from Bobby Heenan and a steel chair thrown in from Andre the Giant, the Brain Busters ended Demolition’s record-breaking 478-day title reign and became the first team to win both the WWF and NWA World tag-team titles. The Brain Busters lost the titles back to Demolition on October 2, 1989.
Their last match was a best-of-three-falls contest against The Rockers broadcast on Saturday Night's Main Event. The Brain Busters won the first fall, but when they were not following directions in the second, an enraged Heenan left the ringside area. After losing the second fall and while they were still in the ring, Heenan fired them during a backstage interview. The Rockers went on to win the third and deciding fall.
Bobby Heenan replaced Tully Blanchard at the1989 Survivor Series because he failed a drug test. Arn Anderson left the federation more or less immediately after the PPV. Arn returned to the NWA but they refusd to rehire Tully Blanchard when news of his failed drug test became known, thus ending the Brain Busters for good.
[edit] Opponents
In the NWA Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard had some of the biggest feuds and most intense matches against The Rock 'N Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson), the Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) and The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane)
During the Brain Buster’s time in the WWF they feuded mainly with The Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) and The Bushwackers (Luke Williams & Butch Miller) and Demolition (Smash & Ax),.
