Bradford (village), Vermont

Bradford is a village in Orange County, Vermont, United States. The population was 815 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²), all land. The Waits River flows through the village.[1]

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 815 people, 322 households, and 191 families residing in the village. The population density was 629.3/km² (1,633.1/mi²). There were 372 housing units at an average density of 287.3/km² (745.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.42% White, 0.86% Black or African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.49% Asian, and 0.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.74% of the population.

There were 322 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them. The constable in both the town and village is Gene Martin. 42.2% were married couples living together, 16.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.4% were non-families. 31.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.95.

In the village the population was spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 79.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 73.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $28,472, and the median income for a family was $32,031. Males had a median income of $30,673 versus $28,375 for females. The per capita income for the village was $14,456. About 10.1% of families and 16.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.2% of those under age 18 and 7.7% of those age 65 or over.
