[edit] Biography
Renfro was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and was raised by his grandmother. He has a sister named Haley Rose and his cousin is Jesse Hasek, lead singer for 10 Years.[citation needed]
Brad performed in a number of films beginning at the age of 10 as a child actor and continuing as a young adult. Despite his performing talent, he has also developed a reputation for "bad-boy" antics as a result of problems arising from drug and alcohol abuse.
[edit] Career
Renfro was ten when he was discovered by Mali Finn, a casting director for Joel Schumacher, director of The Client. He played the title role in the film, adapted from a best-selling John Grisham novel, opposite Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones. The suspense/drama was one of the top-grossing films of 1994.
Brad Renfro has gone on to act in several well-regarded films in his adulthood including 2001's Ghost World and Bully (film) and 2005's The Jacket with Keira Knightley and Adrien Brody. In 1995 he won Hollywood Reporter's "Young Star" award and was nominated as one of People Magazine's "Top 30 Under 30." Most recently, Renfro also appeared in, "Watch", a January 2006 episode of the highly acclaimed Law & Order: Criminal Intent series, alongside fellow former child actor Ethan Embry.
[edit] Problems in his personal life
In 1998, Renfro was charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana, but avoided jail time in a plea deal. In 2001, he was arrested and sentenced to two years probation on charges of trying to steal a $175,000 yacht in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with a friend. The men forgot to untie it from the dock and it bounced back as they drove it away, causing damage. Residents caught Renfro and his friend, and held them until the police arrived. He was arrested again in May 2001 and charged with underage drinking. In 2002, he was charged with driving without a license and public intoxication. Both charges violated terms of his probation, and he was ordered into a rehabilitation program.
On December 22, 2005, Renfro was arrested for attempting to purchase heroin during a drug sting operation in Los Angeles's skid row section. He was charged with attempting to possess heroin, a felony in California. Renfro was ordered into drug treatment program in February 2006 after he pleaded guilty.
