Brachystegia glaucescens is a tree with smooth grey bark, bluish-green leaves, small, creamy-white flowers, and purplish fruit with a woody pod. It grows predominantly in rocky places, in tropical and south eastern Africa. It is often misnamed the Mountain Acacia. The misnomer "acacia" for B.glaucescens trees is used in a paper by C Tafangenyasha in J Environmental Management 63, 37-50 (2001) concerning the degradation of woodlands by elephant predation and fire in the northern part of the Gonarezhou National Reserve in SE Zimbabwe. I propose that instead the name "mountain miombo woodlands" be substituted. Other common names: Muuhze (Shona, Zimbabwe)
