Brachychiton populneus (Schott & Endl.) R. Br. |
The Lacebark kurrajong is sometimes referred to as a Bottle Tree due to the large swollen trunk that it shares with some relatives. The specific name populneus pertains to a perceived similarity to genus Populus, the Poplars. It occurs naturally from Victoria to Queensland, but has been introduced as an ornamental tree to south-western Australia, South Africa, Louisiana and California. In western Australia it was observed to be invasive in disturbed areas. Saplings grow from a drought and fire resistant tap-rooted tuber.
