BMLSS has been the main high school for Bracebridge for many years. It serves students from all of Muskoka.
[edit] Special Programs
BMLSS has a variety of exchange programs available for students. There is a one year exchange student program for one student per year to a country of their choice. For another student, a 3 month arrangement can be made. A one month program is also available.
BMLSS also offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses, some of which include all of the sciences, English and math, among others.
[edit] Teams and Clubs
Sporting teams include fencing, soccer, basketball, gymnastics, hockey, curling, badminton, rugby and volleyball. Other clubs at BMLSS include their improv team (Electric Impulse), chess club, band (as well as a Dixieland Band, who has won gold standing at national championships such as Musicfest Canada), the Outers Club, the Mountain Bike Club, Horticultural Club, Reach Team and the Cross Country club. All of the sporting teams both have Senior and Junior divisions separated by gender.
BMLSS has also been known as a factory of sport talent. In the year 2006 two senior female soccer players were asked to play for a Toronto team. One of them has now been asked to try out for the Canadian Girls National Soccer Team.
BMLSS is also the high school for local musician Kaszandra Cutting, who often plays on the local radio, Moose FM.
[edit] The New High School
Currently a new high school is being constructed just outside of town. It is expected to be open for the 2007-2008 school year, at which time the current location of BMLSS will be closed. In the same building as the new high school, Bracebridge Culture and Recreation opened a new rec centre to replace an old one built over 30 years ago. It had its grand opening on 30 December 2006. It includes a pool, gymnasium, rock climbing wall, gymastics centre, and other activities.
Scheduled to open as well is the Rene Caisse Memorial Theatre in 2007.
