The "Lady Who Cries," a spirit whose scream announced imminent death. From Wendish mythology. Compare with the Banshee of the Irish.
“God’s plaint”; among the Wends she is a messenger of death. She is a little woman with long hair, who cries like a child, beneath the window of a house where someone is about to die.
