Boys' High School & College, Allahabad

Boys' High School & College, is an independent school in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was founded in 1861 for the purpose of providing a Christian education to the children of Europeans and Anglo-Indians, but has always accepted children from all backgrounds. Though originally co-educational, it now admits only boys. It has existed on its present site in central Allahabad since 1861. Since 1940 it has been managed by the Allahabad High School Society.

[edit] Educational Achievements

  • Students of the school have achieved high ranks in public examinations. In 2005 a BHS student obtained the first rank in the admission test for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT-JEE).
  • A student of BHS, Udbhav Kumar Singh won a gold medal in the 2005 International Astronomy Olympiads.
  • The school has a well-equipped computer lab and is the only school in Allahabad to provide compulsory computer education till class VIII and as an optional subject till class XII.
  • BHS has introduced a new subject, Environmental Studies, for generating an awareness about ecology and the threats posed to it as well means to minimise these.
  • There are plans to introduce the study of humanities in the college section. BHS will be the first institution to do so in the whole of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Dr A.T. Flynn was one of the well known Mathematics teacher who went on to become the Principal in the 1960s and continued till 1985

The school has one of the best sports facilities in the region including a full-fledged basket-ball court and an international standard boxing-ring. It has also done pioneering work in the field of gymnastics.

The famous Hindi film actor Amitabh Bachchan studied here.


The brothers Russell Gardner and Winston Gardner studied in the mid 50s and then went onto become teachers in the school
