Cory Matthews winds up in detention after trying to listen to a Phillies game in class while his teacher, Mr. Feeny, is trying to teach the class the great value that love has in all of their lives. Cory simply doesn't see love and girls as such a good thing, especially when his older brother, Eric, takes a girl to a Phillies game instead of him— which prompts Cory to move into his treehouse.

Cory is worried about the class water gun war, as he has no heavy-duty water gun to compete with. However, he soon strikes up a deal with Mr. Feeny: if he paints Mr. Feeny's shutters, he will give Cory the money to buy a new water gun. However, in his haste to paint the shutters, he accidentally gets paint on the fence.

When Alan lets Cory stay up late to watch a baseball game, Cory falls asleep in class the next day at school and fails a test— and Mr. Feeny refuses to let him make it up.

Cory decides that he wants to change his hairstyle, but it takes a turn for the worse, and he joins a group of social outcasts. Can Cory learn one of life's most important lessons when the only true friend he has left is a girl he wouldn't be caught dead with?

When Cory finds out that the winner of a geography bee will be a batboy at the World Series, he tries to bribe Minkus so that he can take his place at the contest.

Cory cheats on an I.Q. test, and is labeled the smartest kid in class. However, the consequences for getting away with it are worse than getting caught: Cory may be transferred into a new school for smart kids.

Alan's mother arrives, gives Cory a Cal Ripken rookie card, and promises to get it autographed by the man on the card himself. But, will she be able to keep this promise?

When Cory insists that teaching is easy in comparison to learning, Mr. Feeny agrees to a bet, in which they temporarily switch roles: he allows Cory to handle his Social Studies classes for one week, while he takes his place a student. Can Cory really handle the stresses of being a teacher?

Chet, Shawn's father, loses his job, and Cory vows that Shawn will have a Christmas gift this year. Morgan is also traumatized when a shopping mall Santa suffers a heart attack as she gets onto his lap.

The father/son softball game is coming up, but Cory and Eric don't want to play. Alan finds out how they feel, and he tells them that the game was cancelled, but Cory finds out (from Topanga) that the game, in fact, was played. 
Eric and Cory discover their mother's secret. "Once in Love With Amy" January 7, 1994 12
While Cory is working on a difficult math problem, he chances upon another conundrum: he accidentally discovers provocative clothing in his mother's bag, and assumes that she is having an affair.... 
Eric and Topanga discuss growing up. "She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not" January 14, 1994 13
Eric appears at Mr. Feeny's class as a guest speaker to talk about their future at high school, but he doesn't tell them the whole truth: that they are about to leave a sheltered life for the real world. Meanwhile, Topanga develops a crush on Eric, but Cory gets the impression that her affections are directed at him....

Cory and Minkus are put on the Basketball B-Team for their school, which never gets to play. However, Cory also gets the feeling that he is on the "B-Team" with his own family....

Cory learns that there is no such thing as a perfect family when his class is assigned to get in a group with three other classmates and work together as a family; Eric believes that he can get a job as a model.

Cory and Shawn bet on racehorses for a school project, but they soon learn— the hard way— that there are things in life that aren't worth risking....

Shawn is afraid of getting into trouble after a cherry bomb prank gone wrong, so he runs away from home, and asks Cory if he can stay in his room in secrecy. Now, Cory and Shawn will learn both how fragile and how vital friendship is....

Cory and Shawn try and sneak an R-rated movie into the house when the family will be out, but their plans are put in jeopardy when Mr. Feeny becomes their baby-sitter; Eric has failed his driving test, but he still decides to drive. Who's getting into trouble tonight?

For Cory's birthday, Alan gives him a necklace with two silver boxing gloves on it, but Cory belittles his gift and carelessly loses it. However, he'll regret that mistake when he learns their true value.... 
The school play. "The Play's the Thing" April 29, 1994 20
Cory is cast to play Hamlet in the school production, but he quickly drops the role because he can't get what he wants. The part goes to Minkus, who, quite frankly, cannot act to save his life. Meanwhile, Alan Matthews takes a pay cut from his manager, but Cory believes that, like himself, his father should take a stand and quit....

When Cory's class watches a film on puberty and how it can affect your emotions, Shawn gets his first date— and in his attempt to catch up, Cory asks Topanga out.

Cory wishes that Mr. Feeny could get sick so that his class won't have to take a big history test. But he ends up with more then he bargained for— when Mr. Feeny ends up in the hospital....
