Bowers House (Illinois)

Bowers is an intentional community located in Hyde Park, on Chicago's south side. With just over 20 members, Bowers House is the largest of the three Qumbya co-ops which are all members of North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO).
House members take turns cooking everyone dinner. Meals, meetings, parties and activities all help to foster community. In addition each member is responsible for a chore and for attending house meetings regularly.
Bowers is home to a constantly changing population. Roughly half are students at one of three institutions: Columbia College, the Art Institute of Chicago or the University of Chicago. Other members include a fire-spinner, a computer scientist, a photographer, an audio/video post-production specialist, a writer, an adjunct professor, an aspiring political theorist, a costume designer, a milliner, a minister, a biochemist, a 3D animator, and a mercenary for one of the world's largest libraries.
