Bower Ashton is a small district two miles to the west of the centre of Bristol on the western boundary with North Somerset. It is mainly a residential area, but also contains Bristol City Football Club’s ground, part of the University of the West of England, much of Bristol’s historic docks, the Ashton Court Estate (where Bristol’s famous outdoor festivals take place), a golf course, and a large number of allotments.

The district is also the location of the playing grounds of Bedminster Cricket Club (founded in 1847, for whom W.G. Grace played), and part of the Avon Trail and the Bristol City Football Club in Ashton Gate, the IBrunels Suspension Bridge across the Avon Gorge between Leigh Woods in North Somerset and Clifton in Bristol, the entrance to Bristol Docks and the 'Floating Harbour' (completed in 1809) across the River Avon in Hotwells.
It is also the site of the Bristol School of Art, Media and Design which is part of the University of the West of England.
