Bottrel, Alberta

Bottrel is a designated place (an unincorporated hamlet) in southern Alberta, in the Municipal District of Rocky View. The Municipal District consists of a number of other smaller hamlets and communities such as Conrich, Indus, Shepard, Dalemead, Dalroy, Keoma, and Madden.
Bottrel is located approximately 65 kilometers or 40.4 miles northwest of the City of Calgary, just off of Highway 22. Bottrel features a historic General Store with campground.
Edward Botterel was an early settler who arrived in the area circa 1888. The post office here operated from December 1, 1909 to March 31, 1969, as was named after Edward Botterel despite the erroneous spelling at its adoption. The error was never corrected and the current spelling is locally used.
