Bosworth Community College
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bosworth Community College is a secondary school in Desford, Leicester, England. It is a specialist sports college, a status which was attained in 2003. The principal is Sue Rothwell.
The school has witnessed a significant drop in the nuber of A-C pass grades at GCSE. About 50% of pupils from GCSE stay on at Bosworth to do their A and As levels.
Staff members use their first names rather than surnames to try to encourage a system of respect towards the student and remove any formalities. Yet it takes students sometime to get used to the idea.
Recent additions to the school added the maths block and dance studio.
As the school is a community college, many use it for after school activities, such as swimming classes. And as the GCSE's approach the school departments prepare Revision classes during and after school.
Being a specialist sports college the college receives extra funding for sport-related items, such as the refurbishment of the swimming pool.
A controversial plan to impose "negative points" for student misconduct provoked a half-day student protest in September 2006. The Student Strike changed the positive side of the system, as before the strike the system was negative biased. [1]
