Boston whist is a variant of whist that was popular in 19th century Europe. It was not, as the name hints, created in the United States city Boston. Though similar to classic whist, Boston replaces the 'most tricks taken takes point' scoring with bidding tricks.

Boston is a favorite pastime of Count Rostov in Leo Tolstoy's novel War and Peace.
