Founded in 1913 as the College of Business Administration, the Boston University School of Management (SMG) offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees, among others. Both the undergraduate and graduate programs offer dual degree options with many other schools and colleges across Boston University.

The BU School of Management enrolls 1,748 undergraduate students, 364 Full-time, 406 Part-time, 61 Executive MBA, and 50 DBA students.[1]

[edit] Rafik B. Hariri Building

Located at 595 Commonwealth Avenue, The Rafik B. Hariri Building opened in 1996 with its unique architecture, sophistication, technology, and amenities. It houses 25 state of the art classrooms, a 375 seat lecture hall, 5 computer labs, and The Frederick S. Pardee Management Library. The building offers wireless internet throughout in addition to 4,000 wired dataports. Also in the building is a Breadwinners Deli and a fully-wired Starbucks Café, with data ports at many tables.

The Hariri Building is named after the late former Prime Minister of Lebanon and former Trustee of Boston University, Rafik Hariri. Having sent two sons to Boston University, Hariri's philanthropic foundation made a generous donation for the construction of the new building.

[edit] Graduate School of Management

The Boston University Graduate School of Management program (GSM) offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Science in Investment Management (MSIM), and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree. The Graduate School of Management also offers a Public & Non-Profit Management (PNP), Health Sector Management, and International Management Program (IMP) MBAs.

Although officially a part of the School of Management and not a separate school of its own, the program is often referred to as simply the "Graduate School of Management".

The graduate programs enrolled 364 Full-time MBA, 406 Part-time MBA, 61 Executive MBA, and 50 DBA students in the 2005-06 school year.[2]

In addition to the MBA, MSIM, and the DBA, a number of dual degree programs are offered in conjunction with other schools within Boston University.

[edit] International Tech Strategy Case Competition

The Graduate School of Management hosts the Annual International Tech Strategy Case Competition held during the Spring semester. The competition in 2006 was sponsored by Motorola and Novell which included teams from twelve schools. The case competition is by invitation only and open to only one team per school. Participants in 2006 included teams from Wharton School of Business (Univ. of Pennsylvania), Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University), Sloan School of Management (MIT), Haas School of Business (Univ. of California-Berkeley), London Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business, McCombs School of Business (Univ. of Texas-Austin), Eller College of Management (Univ. of Arizona), Queen's School of Business (Canada), Seoul National University College of Business Administration (Korea), Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, and the Boston University Graduate School of Management. The prize for first, second, and third place respectively were $25,000, $15,000, and $5,000.[3]

The Second Annual Case Competition held in 2007 was won by a team from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Kellogg Graduate School of Management placed second, followed by Stanford Graduate School of Business, and Queen's University. The prize for first, second, and third place respectively were $25,000, $15,000, and $5,000 with a new prize of $2,500 added for fourth place.[4] The blog covering the event that can be accessed here.

Competiting teams in 2007 were: Boston University School of Management, Eller College of Management – University of Arizona, Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, Kenan-Flagler Business School – University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, London Business School, U.K., McCombs School of Business – University of Texas at Austin, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Seoul National University, Korea, Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Palo Alto, CA.

[edit] International Management Program

The BU Graduate School of Management International Management Program (IMP) is a 14 month MBA which begins during the summer in Shanghai, China and Kobe, Japan. The program then continues in Boston, USA beginning in September of the same year. The intensive program immerses students in the ways of Asian commerce and culture in order to gain a more global perspective to business. A key component of the program are visits to major Chinese and Japanese corporations along with historical cultural sites. Another feature of the program is that students not only live down the hall from each other but also GSM faculty and staff who live in the same dormitories.
