[edit] Uniform

Pupils are required to wear a uniform, thought the code is not strict; black or white shirt, black shoes and the school tie (green and black striped for first-fourth year, plain green for fifth year and plain green with school emblem for sixth year) are the only compulsory items of clothing, apart from wearing 'school colours'. The full uniform was only introduced in summer 2006.

[edit] Pupils

Boroughmuir caters for pupils 11-18 years old. Pupils are permitted to go outside to the shops in Bruntsfield to eat lunch. Boroughmuir High School has a strong rivalry with a nearby school, James Gillespies High School.

[edit] Building

The school building itself goes back over one hundred years. The relatively limited space means that pupils doing P.E. (physical education) sometimes have to go to sports centres outside school. The main entrance is on Viewforth, and just down the road is a primary school, Bruntsfield.

[edit] Feeder Schools

It has had a recent change of primary feeder schools. It now has Buckstone, South Morningside and Brunstfield. Brunstfield used to feed into James Gillespies High School, and Preston Street, Sciennes and Royal Mile now feed into James Gillespies.
