Bop It
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bop It is an electronic game of mental skill, marketed by Hasbro. The game consists of a single player responding to auditory commands with the correct of several actions. This game can be seen as a variation on the hit game, Simon.
Original Bop It has three inputs: a cyan pull handle, a yellow twist knob, and a blue Bop It button on one side, and a yellow Bop it button on the other side. Hasbro later manufactured Bop It Extreme with two additional inputs, a green flick switch and a red spin wheel in the shape of a gear.

[edit] Play
There are three modes to play: Vox Bop, Beat Bop, and Solo Bop. Bop It Extreme also offers Beat Bop Solo. By pulling the handle before the game starts, different game modes can be selected, such as a multiplayer game in which players must "pass it" to the next player to continue play. This must be done in an allotted period of time, dictated by a brief piece of music.
[edit] Vox Bop
When play starts, a loudspeaker in the body of the game plays a rock beat and the player will hear a voice say one of "Bop It," "Twist It," or "Pull It," and you must do it in a set amount of time. As the game progresses, that length of time decreases. Every so often, the voice tells you to "Pass it," giving it to another person to do the same. A losing player is one who activates the incorrect input or no input within the required time; this player is eliminated and gameplay continues in this fashion until a single winner is decided.
[edit] Beat Bop
Beat Bop is a variant in which sound effects, similar to the ones that the inputs make when activated, replace the verbal cues.
[edit] Solo Games: Vox Bop Solo and Beat Bop Solo and Light Bop
Solo games are identical to conventional games except that there are no interludes to pass the toy and the toy keeps count of the total successful responses. Once you make a mistake it lets you know how much you got, however it should be known that you cannot beat Bop It; it goes on indefinitely. Light Bop is for Bop it Blast (the latest) you need to do the actions when the action piece lights up. It will try to trick you by saying one thing and lighting another. However, it has been known time to time to randomly stop at 152, even though it shouldn't end (although it doesn't keep track of high scores over 500 on Bop It Blast).
[edit] Parodies
- Bop It was parodied on a 2004 SNL Weekend Update, as "Bump It", a perverted kids' toy which is sexually aroused by its "Pull It" function, climaxing numerous times as Amy Poehler used the Pull It, seemingly sentient.
