Bonjela
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bonjela is an oral gel, aimed to cure mouth ulcers and denture sores and relieve the pain associated with these ailments. The Bonjela gel is produced using ethanol, glycerol, menthol, choline salicylate, cetalkonium chloride, hyperomellose 4500, anise oil and sodium saccharin intended to kill bacteria in the mouth ulcer or denture sore. Bonjela is distributed by Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare (UK) Ltd and is a registered trademark.
Although the gel prevents pain, applying it (especially to mouth ulcers) causes a short period of pain (typically a few seconds).
The product itself contains choline salicylate, a derivative of aspirin for pain relief.
The tube that contains the gel is easily recognizable. It is a metallic tube, blue in colour, with a white cap. The text on the tube is white, with the word bonjela (all in lower caps) featuring prominently in a sans-serif font.
The product is also available in the UK as "bonjela cool" which offers a cooling effect on the affected areas.
