Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Brenda tells Nate that they could have a wonderful child, but it takes about a year for a woman her age to conceive. Nate agrees, but wants to think about it before making a rash decision. At a dinner with Barb and Hoyt, Barb asks Nate why Lisa's ashes weren't pulverized enough. In a moment of guilt, Nate reveals to them that he buried Lisa's body in the desert, giving her what she wanted. In Lisa's place, Nate had given them ashes from a cremation that were never claimed. Barb instantly shouts at Nate that she really wants Lisa's daughter to not be raised "by a woman she hated." She then leaves, saying that what Nate did "raises a lot of questions." The next day, Hoyt and Barb confront Nate and tell him that Maya should live with them, in a place where they say Lisa is honored. Nate yells at them to get off his property, and refuses to let go of Maya for the rest of the day. Later that night, he tells a disappointed Brenda that it isn't a good time to have a baby.

Brenda meets her mother, Margaret, at a restaurant, but Margaret ends up crouching in a bathroom stall due to vaginal bleeding. She consequentially has a hysterectomy. After her operation, both Brenda and Billy bring Margaret her favorite flowers and reconnect with each other while Margaret spends time with Olivier. With this, they end their year-long estrangement.

Ruth talks to George about making reservations at a retreat called The Loving Couples Center in order to bring them closer, but George is too distracted by his increasing obsession with the threat of natural disaster. George then orders gallons and gallons of drinking water and sticks the bottles in the prep room closet. Ruth then suggests that they transfer all the water to the unused bomb shelter under the coach house. George is immediately intrigued. Soon after, George has moved the bottles of water down to the bomb shelter, in addition to some simple furniture and canned foods. Ruth tries to reinterest George in the Loving Couples retreat, but he is too obsessed with his plans to make the bomb shelter suitable for living.

Claire shows her newest artwork at her crit. Based upon an idea conceived when she and Russell were tearing up photographs, Claire's photographs show her family members and friends wearing papier-mache masks made of small pieces of their faces. Russell tries to take some credit for the concept by mentioning his background in sculpture; this greatly annoys Claire. Claire later accuses Russell of taking credit for her work, but he fights back by accusing her of taking credit of his idea. Jimmy sides with Claire, and reveals to her that he showed her pictures to his gallery owner. A very elated Claire then meets with the gallery owner, who promises to sell all of Claire's artwork in his next show.

Rico and Vanessa continue to have conflicts about Vanessa's new romantic life. Rico is jealous of Vanessa's new boyfriend, Kenny, and argues with her about the fact that Kenny's sister often babysits Julio and Augusto. One evening, when Vanessa is out on a date, Rico sends Kenny's sister home and stays the night. Vanessa, incensed, refuses to come home that night.

David and Keith meet with Roger Pasquese and his lawyer, and find out that criminal charges would be pressed if they did not settle for $500,000. In order to dissuade Roger, they invite him out to dinner. Roger remains obstinate, and uses the opportunity to hit on Keith. David and Keith realize that the only way to force Roger to drop the lawsuit if Keith allows Roger to give him a blow job. A day after the charges were dropped, David gets a phone call from the police. They arrested someone whose finger prints matched the ones on the van.

[edit] Quotes

  • Vanessa: Oh, please. She smoked a little pot in high school. We all did.
  • Rico: I never did.
  • Vanessa: I know, Rico, 'cause you were boring.

  • Olivier: Of course they're going to say nice things about you; they're your kids. But me, I'm a miserable prick who cares nothing about anybody but himself and I look at you in your hospital bed, tired and worn-out from surgery, and I selfishly wonder, how long must I wait before I can fuck you?
  • Margaret: Wow. Finally somebody said something right.
  • Brenda: It would have been weird if I'd said it.
  • Billy: Not in this family.
  • Margaret: Darlings, could you give us a moment?
  • Brenda: Oh, Mom, you're not going to--
  • Margaret: I just want to be with Olivier for a minute.

  • Anita: It's OK, Dick Cheney is my uncle.
