Bolton Hill, Baltimore

Bolton Hill is a neighborhood in central Baltimore, Maryland north of the harbor. It is known for its combination of mostly three-story and four-story townhouses. Some are single-family occupied by single families and some are divided into single-floor apartments which are typically rented. Some are rented to young professionals and some to area college and university students, usually from the Maryland Institute College of Art and University of Baltimore.
Bolton Hill is within easy walking distance of the State Center station on the Baltimore Metro Subway and the University of Baltimore/Mt. Royal and Cultural Center stations on the Baltimore Light Rail.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 5,290 people residing in the neighborhood. The racial makeup of Bolton Hill was 59.5% White, 32.5% African American, 0.3% Native American, 5.2% Asian, 0.9% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.0% of the population. 24.0% of occupied housing units were owner-occuped. 10.7% of housing units were vacant.
54.2% of the population were employed, 2.5% were unemployed, and 45.8% were not in the labor force. The median household income was $25,662. About 12.5% of families and 24.0% of the population were below the poverty line.
