Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to the Mega Man series of video games, and all subseries thereof. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

[edit] Project info

[edit] Title

WikiProject Mega Man

[edit] Scope

Every article that relates to the Rockman series and spinoffs, including English-only and Japanese-only games, as well as appearances of the Rockman characters in other media, such as in MegaMan NT Warrior etc., as well as the pages for the creators of the series, namely Keiji Inafune, Inti-Creates, Capcom, Capcom Production Studio 2, etc (some of these pages will be shared with members not affiliated with the project who were there first - respect their guidelines too!). And other stuff.

[edit] Goals

Provide a single and concise style over all Rockman pages. Provide sources for information; do not provide fanon information or other "common mistruths". Provide English translations of information known only to exist in Japanese. Provide detail, but in a clearly organised and heavily crosslinked way. Etc., etc.

[edit] Hierarchy

[edit] Parentage

The parent of this WikiProject is the WikiProject Computer and video games. The parent project falls under Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Computer and video games.

[edit] Descendant WikiProjects

No descendant WikiProjects have been defined. But I think splitting the EXE series and derivatives off of the main project would be a good idea, considering how drastically different they are.

[edit] Article style guide

General style notes blah. Notable vs non-notable. That is, why Mega Man (character) is a good thing and Mega Buster is silly and stupid.

[edit] Series pages

Notes about series pages (ie the big 5, plus the metaseries page).

[edit] Game pages

Notes about individual game pages.

[edit] Character pages

Notes about pages for major characters.

[edit] Boss pages

Notes for pages listing bosses. There's a lot of boss information, so this should be further subdivided than by series; one option is to fold it into games, another is to create game 'subpages' of some sort. We'll figure it out.

[edit] Current objectives

[edit] Series projects

In order of size, largest first:

  1. EXE series - By far the fastest-growing and most popular of the "big 5", this series also has the most known links to other media. As it is most common of the series to be edited, it is probably also most common to be viewed - and therefore it is highest priority to be improved.
  2. X series - While the Classic series is undoubtedly larger, the X series has a more complex story and a larger cast of characters. The sheer amount of information available is huge. Also, new information is released nearly daily, what with the recent releases of X8 and Command Mission and the current development of X9, Command Mission 2, and the Zero series.
  3. Classic series - While it may possibly be over, the Classic series is the largest of the "big 5" by volume. There's a lot of area to cover, so standardisation rather than information should be key here.
  4. Zero series - The newest of the "big 5", this series may have already come to a close with Zero 4. These games have the most involved story, having been planned from the beginning with a definite story arc which has ties in all of the "Classic timeline" games.
  5. DASH series - Unfortunately the smallest of the games, the DASH series also has quite a bit of relatively unknown and unreleased elements to it. As PSP versions and DASH appearances in Namco X Capcom and other games continue to surface, the series may undergo a revival; Inafune in particular wants to do a DASH 3.

[edit] Improvement drives

Individual articles that need to be improved:

  1.  ?

[edit] Article of the unspecified time period

Some method of declaring time-limited focus on articles, with specific areas in need of attention, would be totally awesome.

[edit] Useful stuff

[edit] Templates

Here goes the "game list" template (after modified to link to the game list!), the "character" template (after modified to work with all characters!), and the "game" infobox (as dictated from on high). Also an "advertisement" template to go on all articles' talk pages that fall under this WikiProject's scope.

[edit] Categories

Add articles to these categories as they're created. No article that falls under this WikiProject should go uncategorised.

(and others)

[edit] Lists

Also add the relevant article links to lists as the articles are made. Or link from the list first. Whatever.

[edit] Articles

[edit] All articles

A link to a subpage that lists all articles under our scope, by series, in alphabetical order (with some hierarchy).

[edit] Reccomended articles

Stuff we've worked on in the past that has made it completely rock! With Featured Articles marked, of course.
