Boar's Head Provision Company

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Boar's Head Provision Company (also, Frank Brunckhorst Co., LLC) is a supplier of delicatessen meats and cheeses. The company was founded in 1905 in the New York City area, and now distributes their products throughout the United States.

[edit] History

In 1933, the company's founder, Frank Brunckhorst, decided that the quality of the meats available for his distribution was sub-par. As a result, Boar's Head opened a small manufacturing plant to prepare his own meats in Brooklyn. By the mid-1970s, the demand for Boar's Heads meats had prompted distribution to all parts of the United States. Currently, the company is operated by the descendants of Mr. Brunckhorst and remains privately owned.

[edit] Products

On top of its line of in-house-made deli meats such as its flagship Ovengold turkey, black forest and other hams, roast and corned beef, German-style wursts and loaves, and Italian-style Prosciutto, salamis, and Capicollo, Boar's Head also distributes over thirty types of American-made and imported European cheeses.

Boar's Head also produces a line of condiments, including mustards. Some of these condiments are certified kosher; this fact is somewhat ironic given the name and the company mascot being on the package.
