[edit] New dab dump

I've asked a question, kinda something to do with your new dump at Dab's with links, at the village pump, specifically here. --Commander Keane 16:27, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Timeline of Entomology

I have followed your excellent suggestion and removed nationalities. Germany was especially problematic and after the 1840s revolutions as well as in the Napoleonic years many entomologists had a history confusing nationalities. In any event this info is given when the link is followed. Very many thanks Notafly. Is this the right place to post my warm thanks?

[edit] un-archiving

Actually, I've put in a request to undo my ill-thought out page move. I was thinking that I could restore the edit history to both pages, but it turns out not to work. The edit history therefore should stay with the main page, and only the first half or so should be archived, I think (especially with ongoing discussions in the rest). Cheers!  BD2412 talk 03:12, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

  • It's done - I'll do a proper cut-and-paste archive now.  BD2412 talk 03:16, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
    • Too much material - had to split it into 2 archives!  BD2412 talk 03:33, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Help with Translation!?

Can you help translate this for me to swedish? Many thanks in advance!

Albania is also rich in rivers and streams with significant hydroelectric potential. These have been exploited quite effectively, making the country an energy exporter. A number of huge hydroelectric power plants have been built, mainly on the Drin River, and more than half of the country's arable land is irrigated, largely from the artificial reservoirs created upstream of the dams.

[edit] Disambig templates

As I have no knowledge of scripts, can you run me one to generate a list of all templates containing disambig links? I think it would be handy to clear those out before the next database dump. Cheers! BD2412 T 20:30, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Still on the disambig script. Since I have no knowlendge of Perl I can't quite work out if it is easy/possilbe for the script to count how many "Whatlinkshere" there are in Wikipedia totally. I'm guessing that the script gets the "Whatlinkshere" for every dab anyway (before it can order them into a descending list), so is it possilbe to get a total count of links to dabs, for all dabs. If it takes any extra processor time don't bother, I just thought it would be interesting to see if WP:DPL is making an impact at all.--Commander Keane 15:25, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for those stats, interesting. Thanks for all the dump work you do, you keep WP:DPL alive and I greatly appreciate it.--Commander Keane 02:04, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
I too greatly appreciate it, thank you! On the basis that thanks must always be accompanied by request, can we have an update to the DPL from a new dump some time soon? It would be nice to see what impact we are making (if indeed any). Soo 11:42, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Did the December 14 dump go to completion? I noticed on Soo's userpage you said that the the Nov. 27 dump didn't get completed, how can I check if the Dec. 14 dump completed?--Commander Keane 13:35, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
OK, I know the December 13 dump went to completion. Is there any chance that you have downloaded it and run the dbanalze yet?--Commander Keane 17:13, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
Swap it in right away. The discussion didn't lead anywhere at all.--Commander Keane 22:03, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Hello Bo. I'm here to ask about another dump script, but before that I must mention that I was looking over your contribs and noticed your link repair work on Swedish, no wonder it never pops its head up at Maintenance and I've never worked on it!

Now about the script. There have been murmurings of distaste for generic dab pages not existing at their rightful location. For example Analog redirects to Analog (disambiguation) when the dab page should be located at Analog. I am hoping for a script to run through the most recent dump and list these pages for me (and any other admin that may want to work on fixing them up). I guess the script would find pages with the "(disambiguation)" in the title, for example Fooboo (disambiguation) and if Fooboo redirects to Fooboo (disambiguation) it would be listed. Can you help? If you are too busy then let me know and I'll ask somewhere else, I always feel like I'm harassing you for work, but I'm summoned by your friendliness.--Commander Keane 09:59, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Hey Bo, it's just the just Foogle → Foogle (disambiguation) type redirects that are needed.--Commander Keane 22:59, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the report! I copied it to Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation/Malplaced disambiguation pages. Also, thanks for posting the links as Foogle, rather than Foogle (disambiguation). It makes my job just that much easier.--Commander Keane 07:21, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Malplaced disambiguations"

Hi. I just found your user subpage with this title. Would I be right in thinking that you are saying that such pages are always bad practice? Whenever I create a disambig page, I use this method by default. If that is wrong, could you explain the problems it causes, so that I can make sure I avoid doing this. Thanks SP-KP 19:51, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi Bo! We have just wrapped up the intial batch of Malplaced disambiguation pages. If you have a recent dump handy, could you run the script again? Reading this it seems the most recent dump was 2006-03-04. If you don't have the dump or are too busy that's ok, I can ask at Bot requests.--Commander Keane 03:27, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Date links

Thank you for bringing the range of date preference formats to my attention. I will incorporate those into my work. Please be kind enough to vote for my new bot application to reduce overlinking of dates where they are not part of date preferences. Thanks. bobblewik 23:40, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WP:DPL

I think it might be time to start on a new database dump; do you want to do the honors? --Russ Blau (talk) 23:15, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ...in Categories

Just for fun, how about a list of disambig links in Category pages? bd2412 T 05:21, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks! :-D bd2412 T 16:46, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi Bo Lindbergh. Could you extract the statsitics that tell us how many dab pages there are and the number of links etc. The last ones reside here for safe keeping.--Commander Keane 08:36, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Enforce inclusion of categories

Hey Bo, I've made a proposal to change the software to prevent mainspace pages from being saved unless they contain a category. I'd appreciate your thoughts! (Please comment on the talk page). bd2412 T 22:58, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DTB?

Bo, are you the author of "Durandal Terminal Browser"? If so, please contact me. - Peter Bjørn Perlsø 21:26, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Bo, I'm happy I found you. I'm considering porting DTB to OSX and supporting the new Marathon/Aleph One Mapfile format, and I wanted to hear if you would release the source code for DTBm so I could update it? - Peter Bjørn Perlsø 02:23, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
