Talk:BMO Field

- Is the stadium expansion and upgrade friendly, provided that the economics work in the future?
Who else is looking forward to the completion of this stadium? J3wishVulcan 04:40, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Why don't the stands have a roof? CalJW 06:10, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
This stadium seems low budget to me. Sure it costs $62 million and seats 20 000, but my dream is that Canada could host an actual world cup (2018). But those require 60 000 person stadiums and much better designs. This is deffently a great start, but I just wish Soccer was taken more seriously here. I will still like to watch some games in this stadium tho. 007craft 08:12, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Sorry dude, don't get your hopes up. Canada will never ever ever host a world cup. We will never get the support for it to build the 10 or so 60,000 seat stadiums that FIFA requires. So there's no reason to build stadia that big. Also, with regards to the 20,000 seats at BMO -- that's a reasonable number considering it's just beginning (it can easily be expanded later if interest warrants. 20,000 is not that far away from the average attendance in some European leagues. The AVG attendance in the English Premiership is about 33,000. AVG attendance in the Italian Serie A is about 20,000. AVG Attendance in the Spanish Premier league is about 24,000. So for a stadium in a city that is just developing it's local team, 20,000 is just about right.
it wud be great to have a 60,000 seat stadium except for the fact that theyll be probly about 15,000 fans at each TFC home game for now... this is a good start Soccer fan 20:36, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
It's not soccer; it's football!!! Smokie81
The stadium needs to be completed for the start of the FIFA Youth WC next summer, let's not forget this. I hear people critizing the stadium and it's simpleness, but the fact of matter is that we have a limited time frame to work with. I'm sure that if MLSE (owners of Toronto FC) had a larger amount of time to work with they'd have a better design for the stadium, maybe of a higher capacity as well. We also do not need a thirty-thousand plus seater. MLS wants teams to build their own SSS's, with reasonable capacities to give them a better atmosphere and to avoid the half-full, half-empty feeling that comes with gigantic college football stadiums. --Jay-wolf 06:23, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm English, but am moving to Toronto this year an as such have been following the TFC story with some interest. BMO field is certainly very different from most of the stadiums we have here in that it has a shallow rake to the stands and no roof. I have a feeling that this may have a bit of a negative effect on the atmosphere, although that is of course down to the attitude of the fans themselves. It's worth looking at 2 new stadiums opened this year by English league 1 (2 levels below premiership) teams. One is Doncaster Rovers Keepmoat ground (15,000 @ £32m) and the other is Swansea City's New Liberty Stadium http://www.liberty-stadium.com/ (20,000 @ £27m).
One other thing. Does anyone know if BMO field is complete yet. Not long to go now!
- You're likely to find that a stadium that seats 20 000 having 10 or 12 guys in the stands kills the atmosphere more. ;) In all seriousness, it's planned to open in the spring, AFAICT. WilyD 16:30, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
