[edit] Hi!

Thanks for the note about the web site entry. I wonder though, aren't all external links commercial in one way or another? For example, a link to google maps is commercial. The web site I was adding is a free community site. Please advise. I'll happily stop adding the links if you still don't think they are appropriate.

cheers, sebs (admin@mywhidbey.com)

It's typically frowned upon to add your own website to articles, especially to multiple pages. I'd highly encourage that you read Wikipedia:External_links#What_should_not_be_linked_to before adding more links. That was a stock message that I left on your talk page, however, I was not really worried about the commercial aspect, but the fact that it is a (small) personal website. Thanks. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 08:14, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for this information. I will refrain from adding the link until the site becomes widely used.
cheers
Thanks for your understanding. Keep in mind though, like the above article mentions, it's frowned upon to add links to your own pages. The train of thought is, if it becomes large enough, somebody will add it on there own. Thanks again. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 08:31, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
I can't wait for someone else to add my web site. That will be a happy day. =)

Thanks again for your tips and advice.

[edit] *

I apologize, I didn’t consider it “vandalizing” though! putting Mao, Hitler and other war criminals, etc on the mass murderer cat. (And "last warning", I've never even recived a "first warning" for anything...,) In my opinion, I haven’t done anything wrong, so lay easy on the threats. If I made an edit you consider wrong, or even “vandalizing”, you can tell me that in a nice way, and I can learn from my mistakes. 80.217.161.77

[edit] Thanks for your support

Hi, just a quick note to thank you for your support on my RfA. I was pleased to see so much support, especially from people such as you who I do not know very well, if at all. Now that I am an administrator I will do my best to please the community’s expectations. AND YOUR DRIVING IS COOL. Best regards, Sam Hocevar 17:00, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome. Congrats! -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 19:26, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Kanye West Vandalism

Bmicomp, I noticed that you are an admin who recently contributed to Kanye West. That I why I came to you. There has been so much vandalism to that article recently that I added a POV tag to it. I had seen that on other articles that attract vandals. The tag was quickly removed by another user. Is there anything that can be done to warn people before editing. I couldn't find any template that was appropriate (other than the neutrality tag). I hope you can help. Thanks, Psy guy (talk) 21:00, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

I would shy away from the POV tag as it is actually reserved for articles which do not represnt a neutral point of view, unless this is the case. Instead I would recommend listing the page on the vandalism in progress page. That lets other editors and administrators know that the page is undergoing vandalism and they will watch it more closely. In cases of very frequent/persistent vandalism, you may want to request that the page be temporarily protected from editing until the vandals go away.
According to a study by IBM, they found that most vandalism on Wikipedia is reverted within 5 minutes, so most users won't see the vandalism anyway. Hope I could be of some help. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 04:27, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for the support on my RfA. I was very pleasantly surprised to see so much support throughout the week. Please do keep an eye on me and my logs, especially while I'm learning the ropes with the new buttons. Thanks again! -Splash 23:41, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] RfA

Hey-Just to let you know, I saw your RfA and voted for you (of course). Good luck, I dont think anyone in their right mind would oppose. Also, just to let you know, if you are sysoped, I plan to harass the hell out of you with all the vandals I run into on RC/New Page Patrol-so be warned-lol : ). --Gpyoung talk 04:04, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for voting for me and praising me in my RfA. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 04:16, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

Are those pictured licensed or can I upload them if I give you credit? I was doing a little work on the Gary, Indiana article et al. and am always in need of good pictures. --Gpyoung talk 04:28, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] My bad

I didn't know how Wikipedia edits worked. I didn't think they were approved by anyone -- I figured the changes were instant. I didn't realize everytime I changed a word or something minor, it was going through to someone. Don't block me... I just registered now to make it easier too. Cheers! --AcousticGrrl 04:10, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

The changes are instant, however, some people monitor the recent edits. I'm not sure which edit you're referring to, but nonetheless, welcome to wikipedia. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 04:15, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Porn

I saw you speedily deleted ParisCum.jpg. Just a gentle reminder, but, as far as I'm aware, pornography is not a criteria for speedy deletion. I'm not sure that this image should have stayed on Wikipedia, but next time you may want to put it on images for deletion. Thanks. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 06:50, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

It never fails to amaze me how people feel the need to lecture me as if I have no idea what is going on around here. I deleted the porn image becuase it was being used for vandalism. Just as I would do for a vandal's article which was an attack page. I will delete every image that is used for vandalism and vanity, and I will continue to do so. Zoe 06:54, September 11, 2005 (UTC)
There is a reason that the penis images remain on Wikipedia. Just because they are frequently used to vandalise, that is not their sole purpose. Also, I wasn't trying to imply you didn't know what you were doing, but I wanted to gently mention it so I didn't come off as trying to tell you what to do. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 07:04, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
I know that the penis images are used for vandalism, but they are also here in order to properly illustrate the articles they were uploaded for. The Paris Hilton image was used solely for vandalism, and therefore an appropriate speedy. I am not a prude, I disagree with the idea that the autofellatio image cannot be shown inline, and belive the censoring of that is inappropriate. But the Paris Hilton image is not of the same order, and I will continue to do as I see fit. Zoe 07:08, September 11, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] BDSM

Why did you revert the last change on BDSM? The new wording by 64.228.63.101 does seem more NPOV. Owen× 01:55, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

I actually didn't object to the neutrality of the new wording. The old wording and the new wording seem to be trying to say something along the same lines. However, the new wording refers to vanilla sex, which does not seem to be contextually correct. Vanilla sex, according to the article on the subject, implies plain sex, which does not look like how it is being used. I'm really not familiar with BDSM or the term Vanilla sex, so if you think the new wording was better, feel free to revert back to it. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 02:18, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
Good point! I'll try to come up with better wording or a different wikilink. Owen× 02:24, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your RFA

Well, my RfA has not quite completed yet, but either way, I'd like to thank you for your vote and your support, regardless of the outcome. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 17:56, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

Hey, no problem. I see your name around, and you seem to do a good job. Plus it should be "no big deal" right? Anyways, I thought I'd ask... shouldn't it be "HOW'S MY DRIVING" with an apostrophe? Just thought I'd say something. Cheers. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 18:47, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, it should be. I realized the error and contemplated changing it, but I liked the look of it more without the apostrophe. Maybe I will change it though.... -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 20:14, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
Well hey, don't change it just because of me. Some grammarians may take issue with it however. :) See ya around. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 20:18, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
I wasn't going to respond to your 'thank you' note for supporting your RfA until after it closed, for fear of jinxing you. I just went and checked it, and seeing that you're at 50 support votes now, I'm pretty sure that it can't hurt now. Nice job BMI, I really do see you around all the time doing good things. You'll be a great admin. Oh yeah, and screw the apostrophe. Fernando Rizo T/C 01:40, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re:My RfA and My talk page

What gives? Thank you for thanking me, but it appears you dumped your whole talk page onto mine! If this was intentional, I'd be happy to delete it (not that I mind all the warm and fuzzy comments). Good luck with your RfA, happy editing, and happy birthday ;) -[[User:Mysekurity|Mysekurity]] [[additions | e-mail]] 23:57, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

Sorry about that. That wasn't even my talk page that I added; i'm not exactly sure what happened. I think I recieved an error when I tried to post it, otherwise I would have noticed my mistake. Nonetheless, Howabout seems to have fixed it. Sorry once again. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 01:22, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
Hmm, it doesn't seem fixed to me. Did you post this at your page and my page? (because I saw this on both, in which case you might have used a template, {{User talk:Bmicomp}} or something?) Maybe should I just go ahead and delete the things, or is there something you might be able to help me with? Thanks in advance, and honestly, dont worry about it, [[User:Mysekurity|Mysekurity]] [[additions | e-mail]] 03:05, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
Sorry, it should be fixed now. Thanks for the understanding. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 03:55, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing it, but really, it was not a problem (I assumed it was a simple mistake). It's good to have people like you who fix the messes they made, and appologize, so for that, I'm thankful. Also, it appears you are going to become an administrator, so good luck with that, (may I drop a line on your talk page if I see something?) I tend to use Redwolf24, Essjay, Splash, and a few others as my mops, and one day, one day soon *shakes fist*, I might join your ranks. Until then, good luck, and happy editing. -[[User:Mysekurity|Mysekurity]] [[additions | e-mail]] 23:43, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Autocopyvio

Hi there. You will be pleased to know that I have just broken your rather excellent autocopyvio script by reforming the operation of WP:CP. It now has per-day subpages (like e.g. CFD and IFD, but not like AFD). It also has a new template {{article-cv}}, so that the entry should look like:

* {{subst:article-cv|PageName}} [link] ~~~~

Just thought I should let you know. I'll drop the VP a message too. Do you know how widely used your script is? -Splashtalk 02:35, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

Do you mean the Roman numerals, or the fact that it's more of an if-then than a 1-2-3-4? The various other instructions, like in {{afdfooter}} use Roman numerals so I didn't change it here (but note that I didn't write the original form of the CP instructions). I'm thinking that the instructions on CP should be refactored into two halves, in two columns: is it (a)An article or (b)An image. That will probably help clarify things a little. -Splashtalk 12:26, 16 September 2005 (UTC)`
I gave it a go. Could you take a look to see if messed up? Thanks. -Splashtalk 22:00, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Congratulations!

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 02:16, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Popups tool

Congratulations on being made an admin! I thought you might like to know of a javascript tool that may help in your editing by giving easy access to many admin features. It's described at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. The quick version of the installation procedure for admins is to paste the following into User:Bmicomp/Archive3/monobook.js:

// [[User:Lupin/popups.js]] - please include this line

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
             + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

popupShortcutKeys=true; // optional: enable keyboard shortcuts
popupAdminLinks=true; // optional: enable admin links

There are more options which you can fiddle with listed at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. Give it a try and let me know if you find any glitches or have suggestions for improvements! Lupin|talk|popups 12:35, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Abuse

Hey, do you know where I can report abuse committed by an Admin towards me? I need to know whom to contact. Thanks! (Please reply here - not on my talkpage) --Anittas 20:03, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

I kindly asked you to reply HERE ---- not on my talk page. Now it's all ruined. --Anittas 22:41, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

In reply to your latest message:

Okay, no problem. He vandalized my articles - and he continues to do that.

1. He challenged me on citation (see talk:Battle of Vaslui) when he himself has none, while I have, at least, a few good articles that I posted;

2. He reverted my own, personal, talk-page. I like to think that this talk-page should be under my sole authority, and not to be touched by any fool on any given day;

3. He harasses me by following me around (my articles) and insulting my skills of the English language.

Isn't that enough? Because that's all I have on him ,and, I feel that it's more than enough. He didn't kill anyone that I know of, if that's what you're asking. --Anittas 23:45, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] I hope this doesn't make you regret offering that you are always willing to help ...

Bmi --

I'd like to have an administrator impose a 24-hour block on Jayjg for violating the prohibition imposed by Requests_for_arbitration/HistoryBuffEr_and_Jayjg that he not remove "adequately referenced information from any article which relates to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict" for the period 16 January 2005 to 16 January 2006. Jayjg violated this prohibition repeatedly by changing Occupied Territories (Israeli) to redirect and by removing link to this article at Occupied Territories.

Thank you.

Marsden 15:09, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

You may want to review Marsden's history of reverts against community consensus in the articles before you act. Thanks. - Tεxτurε 15:30, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
In addition, aside from the fact that re-directing a POV fork back to its original page is not "removing adequately referenced information from Israeli-Palestinian conflict articles", Marsden has misunderstood the Arbitration Committee ruling. There are no Arbitration Committee restrictions on my editing; see Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Completed requests. Jayjg (talk) 20:04, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: CP stuff

Thanks for the reminder. I do usually clear my redlinks out (in bulk, once I've done a chunk of them) so if I left some behind it was accidental/absent-minded. Thanks for clearing them up for me. Good point about the poster-claims-permission section. I remember leaving a number behind today, so I'll go and heft them over to the other section. I was thinking about following them up myself, but it means surrendering my psuedonymity, so I don't. -Splashtalk 02:21, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Unacceptable deleting tactics

Just for your information. User:Ted Wilkes has repeatedly deleted paragraphs from talk and article pages. See [1], [2], [3], [4]. He even falsely claimed to have moved content from the Talk:Elvis Presley/Homosexuality page to the Talk:Elvis Presley/Sexuality page, but the content has been totally deleted. See [5].

There are similar deleting tactics by User:Wyss. See [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], [12]. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Onefortyone (talkcontribs) User:80.141.245.248.

Regarding your "Removal of talk page comments" posted to my Talk page. I note this stems from an unsigned notice posted here (which I have now inserted). You might wish to look at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/OnefortyoneAnon 80.141.et al. Also, you may wish to read Wikipedia:Refactoring talk pages as I certainly plan to continue cleaning up various talk pages in accordance with this Wikipedia:Policy. [edit] Requesting help....

Hi Bmicorp,

I'm a regular album article writer, having created or refurbished loads of articles over the last few months. While perusing the list of admins, I saw "always willing to help" next to your name, so I thought I'd try you in the hopes that you can accomodate me.

Over the last little while, I've come into a disagreement with Mel Etitis, who is another admin, as it turns out. Here's the situation. The album in question is M.I.U. Album by The Beach Boys. Mel started changing the infobox style to suit what he likes. That's FINE. Didn't bother me at all, but what is bizarre is that out of the 40 or so album articles on The Beach Boys, he INSISTS on keeping that one according to his liking and won't touch the others and is being rather obstinate about it. Again, the style is not my issue - I could care less as long as it looks fine - but the complete break from continuity with all the other albums is jarring. I asked him to change them, and he won't. This particular album MUST be as he wants. I've tried reasoning but he is being unresponsive to my concerns, although I've been willing to work with him. Again, I don't care if the style changes for all of the albums. Until then, however, for continuity issues, I think MIU should remain as it was. I just reverted it again, but he's sure to change it back to his preferred version.

Can you help me with this?

Thanks BGC 21:00, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Hello,

Just to let you know, the same user has gone over your head after your helpful work and is now modifying the infoboxes further - without consulting with me or anyone else - and is, in the process, removing time-consuming work I have just put in (adding album pictures to the chronology). Can you please intercede before I report Mel for vandalism?

BGC 11:28, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] re Copyvios

Hey, thanks. Yeah, it's nice to have squeezed the backlog down considerably. RedWolf (the other one) has put in sterling service over there too. Now there's just the "poster claims permission section", but I'm reluctant to surrender my pseudonymity. -Splashtalk 13:40, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

Ok, so you do just use a standard internet email account and people don't think you're making it all up? I think I'll just set myself up an(other) Yahoo! account and use that for the purpose, and log in once a day or something. It's just the using my real name thing that I'm not too keen on, so I'll think about this a little. -Splashtalk 21:35, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Oh, right, so you don't use your real name? I had supposed that people wouldn't believe me if they got an email from someone called 'Splash'. -Splashtalk 22:55, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
I was just thinking that if I received an email from this 'Splash' character who wants me to reply with legal jargon and the like, I'd delete it in abou the same time as I do the ones from desperate Nigerian former heads-of-state and the like. But then I'm fairly brutal on my inbox. Anyway, if you've generally had no trouble, I'll give it a whirl, from a Yahoo! address. I've no experience of GMail so I don't really know how spammed it gets. -Splashtalk 23:30, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ngb

No he didn't, although he hsan't edited since I left it — the new academic year is just beginning here and his userpage suggests he needs to get that over with first. Still, some of them are pretty old now, and he was editing during the relevant timescales. Not sure what to do, really.

On a side note, I'm not sure the few permissions I have so far received are actually doing Wiki a favour. At least two of them need to be taken directly to AfD, but it doesn't seem terribly good faith for me to do that just yet! -Splashtalk 20:55, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

Well, I suppose they've been languishing so long that not much harm will be done by letting them languish a little longer before deleting them. They can always be restored at a moment's notice. Going through those assertions is very tiresome, isn't it? Copypaste-copypaste-copypaste-send. I could spend almost my whole wikitime clearing the daily list of copvios, too, without following any up. -Splashtalk 23:42, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
