[edit] The Lager

Dutch Gold is an imported lager sold in the Republic of Ireland. It is brewed and canned in Holland and is 4.2% ABV. The distributors describe it as "an easy to drink, typically Dutch product and was developed specifically to suit Irish consumers tastes. Dutch Gold is one of the best value for money products on the Irish Market." [1]

It has also been assessed as "another mild interpretation of a pilsner style of lager. Slightly lighter than Luebecker with a lower specific gravity and alcohol content, Dutch Gold can be considered a European Style Lager." [2]

It has been given an average rating of 6/10 by consumers who sometimes refer to it as 'Dutchy' or 'Dutchies'.[3]

The full name is Melchers Dutch Gold Lager and it is brewed by Brouwerij de Oranjeboom (InBev), CA Breda, Netherlands. [4]

Comans Wholesale Ltd of Dublin has the exclusive distribution contract in Ireland [5].

Dutch Gold is sold in many formats, for example:

  • 500ml Can
  • 500ml 2x12 Can
  • 500ml 6 PackCan
  • Multi 500ml Can [6]

A popular format is the 6 pack, sold for 7 euros, and much of the success of the lager is as a result of this price. [7]
