Bluebird's Illusion (In fact 'Illusion of a Bluebird', just shortened incorrectly.) is a PC game created by Ocean-X, believed to be the name of a fangroup of 4 college students in China, based on the manga Fullmetal Alchemist (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi). It is an interactive game with 4 different endings and it is rumoured that there are only 100 copies in the world due to a prevention in manufacture because of copyright violation. All of the copies of the game are in chinese, making game play hard for non-chinese speakers. However, copies can be easily found for download from the internet, and there is an almost complete translation circulating.

[edit] Storyline

Edward Elric is living a peaceful life in Central, Amestris after succeeding in bringing his brother, Alphonse Elric's, body back. However, there is something wrong with Alphonse's body - it starts disappearing, and Edward has to work with the Homunculi to fix it.

[edit] Gameplay

The game is consisted of battles against characters with the player playing as Edward Elric. To fight, the player chooses one out of 5 cards in every turn while the computer, playing as the opponent, does the same thing. There are different 5 types of cards:

  • Alchemy
  • Attack
  • Defense
  • Recover
  •  ??? (Random)

An example of a battle can be found here: [1]

[edit] Endings

Edward as Pride.
Edward as Pride.

Bluebird's Illusion has 4 differents endings

  • Tea Alchemist ending: Edward is renamed to the "tea alchemist" and he must serve tea to King Bradley
  • Pride!Ed ending : Roy Mustang and Al die and Ed commits suicide. Edward is revived by Father and is reborn as the homunculus Pride (After killing King Bradley).
  • Roy ending: Alphonse dies and Edward is heartbroken. Life goes on, Roy becomes Fuhrer & Ed ends up as a General.
  • Veggie!Ed ending: Edward sacrifices himself to save Alphonse and ends up in a vegetative state.

[edit] Trivia

There are 2 contradictions in the game:

  • King Bradley is Wrath in the manga, not Pride. Wrath from the anime is an anime only character and this game is supposed to be based on the manga.
  • In one of the endings, Father revives Ed as the new Pride. However, Homunculi are not born from revived humans (like in the anime), they are born from living humans being injected with the liquified Philosophers Stone.

These mistakes are reasonable, as the chapters of the manga that explained that Wrath was different in the anime and manga, and the chapter that explained the creation of Homunculi were released after the game was created.

Because King Bradley is the least popular Homunculi among fans, the fan artist often (when drawing the homunculi) replaced King Bradley with Edward as Pride

The game is famous for suggesting that Edward could be Pride

The introduction of the game [2] introduces King Bradley as "King Bradrey" because in Japanese, the 'l' sound is so thick that names or words with 'l' is spelled with an 'r' (the 'r' pronounced in the Spanish way, a thick 'l')
