Blue book exam

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Blue Book exam is a type of test administered at many school (for example, the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor), where a professor gives an essay topic, which the student must write about during the exam period. Generally, the teacher will give advance warning on the possible essay topics and will then choose one, or let the student choose from the available ones on which topic to write about. Blue books typically contain several sheets of wide-ruled notebook paper and have the words "Blue Book" across the front. They can generally be purchased for much less than $1, usually around 25 cents.

The California Institute of Technology also uses blue books for its final exams, the majority of which are take home. The books are notable for having a picture of a Cobra on the back cover.
