Blue Mountain High School

Blue Mountain High School is located at 1076 W Market St, Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, USA. It was built in 1969 and renovated from 2002 to 2005. It is part of the Blue Mountain School District, which itself grew out of necessity from Orwigsburg School. The bronze eagle in front of the school is an original Wanamaker's Eagle, which was donated to the school after assisting the department store with decorating, went out of business, and it still stands today.

BMHS is known primarily for the academic achievements of its over 1000 students in grades 9 through 12. In 2006 Blue Mountain students had an average SAT score of 1070, averaging 527 in the verbal section and 543 in the math section.

Blue Mountain offers a variety of District XI sports including wrestling, swimming, cross-country, track,tennis, football, soccer, baseball, basketball, golf and girls' volleyball. In most sports, it is considered AAA. Although, swimming and soccer are AA. Football is considered AAA.
[edit] Cross Country
The Cross Country team started in 1968 as a club under the direction of Mr. Ralph Yeager, who would coach until 1987. From 1971 to 1984, the team met phenomenal success, winning district titles 12 of the 14 years, and league titles 15 consecutive years. Mr. Greg Yutko and Mrs. Joan Frey then coached for several years respectively. In 1999, Mr. Jared Buchman took over as head coach, assisted by Mr. Jared Gerace.

The Blue Mountain golf team has won the Schuylkill League 9 straight years. The coach is Larry Borden. The home course for Blue Mountain High School is Schuylkill County Country Club.
[edit] Boy's Tennis
The Blue Mountain Tennis team participates in the District XI singles and doubles tournaments, as well as District XI team tournaments. However, because of the school's location in the state, they play against multiple teams in the Berks League, which is part of District III. The coach is Daniel Watts.
[edit] Girl's Softball
The Blue Mountain Varsity softball team won the Schuylkill League Championship in 2006, and advanced to the semi-finals in the district that following year as well. They finished with a winning record. The head coach was Terry Ernst, assisted by Steph Allen and Gary Adams.
[edit] Boy's and Girl's Swim Team
The Blue Mountain Girl's Varsity Swim Team won the District XI AA Title in 2007 for the second year in a row. They also won the Schuylkill League Championships in 2007. The Boy's Varsity Swim Team finished in the district by placing 5th. Both teams are coached by Mr. Tim Bayliff.

In 2007, the Blue Mt. Boy's Basketball team won the Schuylkill League Championship and the District XI Championship, and they're bringing it home the next two year.

Blue Mountain High School offers a variety of clubs that any student are welcome to join.
[edit] Improv Club
The Improv Club is a fairly new club that was founded by Hilary Kissinger, an alumni of Blue Mountain. It contains comedy that which is described as improvisational comedy. The styles and comedy is very similar to the popular TV show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?".
The current Improv Club of BMHS is led by Tom Connors, a senior at BMHS. He is also the founder of Friday Night Live (FNL), which is an event that uses a mix of improv and pre-written sketches that are performed in front of a live audience.
