Blue Hole, NJ

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Blue Hole is located in the Pinelands of Winslow Township, New Jersey. The Blue Hole is a body of water in the middle of woods that is clear blue and always freezing cold, even in the summer, with a very steep shoreline. The clear blueness was unusual because most lakes and ponds in the area are brownish. The Blue Hole is circular and about 70 feet across. It is rumored to be bottomless and the home of the Jersey Devil himself. Scientists once dropped cable into the Blue Hole with a very heavy weight attached to the end to see how deep it was. After they sent a mile of cable into the hole, they gave up. Around the 1930s, the Blue Hole was a very popular party and swimming spot. There was a bridge that went over the Egg Harbor River that made the Hole easily accessible that was wiped out by a storm about 40 years ago.
