Blonde jokes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blonde jokes are a class of jokes based on a stereotype of blonde women (or rarely, blond men) as unintelligent, sexually promiscuous, or both.

Many are simply variations on other racist jokes, sometimes adapted to make them less offensive. Like all humor based on stereotypes, blonde jokes may be found offensive by many people, not limited to their target. However, blonde jokes in general tend not to be quite as controversial as other racial humor or dark comedy.

Blonde jokes nearly always take the format of the "blonde" placing herself in a situation or making a comment that serves to highlight her supposed lack of intelligence and/or promiscuity. On a visit to the David Letterman program, during a time when his hair was rendered blond for his then-current film production, Bill Murray told a story about a blond coyote who became caught in a trap, and despite gnawing off three of its legs, was still caught in the trap.

A British variant of the blonde joke is the Essex girl, which became popular in the late 1980s, and satirises working-class girls from the county of Essex. This is also one of the endless variants on the ancient Why did the chicken cross the road? joke:

Q: Why did the blonde climb over the glass wall?
A: To see what was on the other side
Q:Why did the blonde get fired at the banana factory
A: Because she threw out the bent ones

Q: How do you kill a blonde? A: Put a scratch and sniff at the bottom of a pool.
