Bloede dam
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Bloede Dam is an inactive hydroelectric dam on the Patapsco River in Maryland, just west of Elkridge. The dam, built in 1907, was the first in the world designed with the generators and turbines underwater, inside the dam itself.
The dam supplied electricity to communities south and west of Baltimore until 1924. Partly in order reduce the amount of silt in the river, which clogged the turbines, the state of Maryland established Patapsco Valley State Park to keep the hillsides around the dam forested.
