Blind date

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is about a type of dating. For other uses, see Blind date (disambiguation).

A blind date is a date where the people involved haven't met each other previously. The match could have been arranged by common friends or by a dating system.

Blind dates have become more commonplace following the rise of the Internet, when people who have met in chatrooms or fora finally agree to meet in person. Afterwards, they go to a place where they can have time to talk and get to know one another.

A blind date is defined in the Ph.D. dissertation of Robert E. Berend as "a first face-to-face meeting of a man and woman with the purpose of getting to know each other in order to explore the possibility of a romantic relationship. The goal is a relationship or partnership, possibly sexual, of either one date or longer. Meeting someone through work, a social function or face-to-face in some other way beforehand precludes that person from being a "blind date." (Reference: Ph.D. dissertation of Robert E. Berend entitled Perceptions of Chemistry, First Date Selection Criteria and Factors in First Intercourse from the San Francisco Area, September 22, 2003.)
